It seemed like a nice clear day late in the year. When we got to the spot, the wind was so fierce that nothing would stay put. My canvas, paints, easel, everything was blowing away. Later, in the calm of winter, working in the studio, I came back to this one. The soft, gentle fields of color I had laid out in the wind seemed insufficient to capture the day, so I got out the palette knife and started swiping as furiously as those gusts of wind.
